Dear Neighbors and Community Members:
My name is John Gyllenhammer and I am a candidate for Orange City Council representing the Sixth District. As a husband to my amazing wife and parent of two incredible children, I want to make sure that they have the best quality of life possible and that they are proud to call Orange our home.
I am not a politician and have never run for elected office. I was born in the Midwest and moved over 20 times in my life. I was blessed to grow up with excellent parents who taught me the value of hard work and the importance of service to others. My father, a US Marine turned businessman, and mother, an elementary school teacher, modeled a balance between fighting for what is right, while always looking out for the well-being of others. These values are instilled in me, and I am proud to carry them over into my life with my family.
Orange is fantastic place to raise kids, grow up in, feel safe, enjoy nature, eat great food, run a successful business and experience the best that this country has to offer. Orange has provided me with all a family can hope for…strong family values, a small-town feel with a robust local economy and plenty of places to enjoy. We are committed to making Orange our home the rest of our lives. It is for this reason that I have decided to run for Orange City Council in District 6.
Outside of work, I spend as much time as I can with my family – coaching AYSO soccer and my son’s baseball team in Orange Sunrise little league, hiking together at Peter’s Canyon, biking to Irvine Regional Park and walking to get food at the local restaurants. I am active at my church, volunteering as a 3rd/4th grade Sunday school teacher. I try to stay physically active – I am in an Orange MLS softball league, playing weekly at Hart Park, and a basketball league, playing weekly at Grijalva Park.
As a City Councilmember, I will work to maintain the generations of greatness this city has enjoyed. I want to preserve and protect our neighborhoods with a commitment to responsible growth. I will work diligently to keep Orange residents and businesses safe, finding ways that allow all to be more prosperous. I will support our police and fire fighters, ensuring that they have the resources needed to keep Orange safe. I will support the hard work of our business owners as they provide services and jobs to this city. I will work with compassion to ensure that homelessness is reduced in our city. I am an advocate for the taxpayer and will stand for no increased taxes. I will prioritize any issues that focus on building up Orange to be better place for our children to grow up in. Lastly, I will approach every decision with openness and a desire and commitment to preserve the greatness of our communities.
This fall, I respectfully ask for your vote to serve as the District 6 representative on your Orange City Council.
Thank you,
